In Inge Pries’s paintings we see African men as they make their journey – perhaps on the run, perhaps to Europe. Or it could be that, as they shed their skin color, cloths and beliefs, they only travel to the West in their minds. But as always in Pries’s paintings, nothing is clear-cut or given to a univocal political reading. This tragic-comic scenario is set in her painting as a modern-day ship of fools, as an odyssey through delusions and confusions  following a dubious example.
